Synapteos
Int. Space capsule, close shot
A
female astronaut (henceforth known as N) sits in the cabin of her tiny
space craft, reveling in the peace and tranquility. Lights from within
the capsule reflect off her helmet in a soothing pulsating rhythm, the
low hum of the life support systems can be heard. N’s eyes are closed
until she turns her head to one of the cabin windows and gazes through
the narrow pane of glass. The earth can be seen in the reflection of
her helmet.
(20
seconds)
Cut to:
Ext. Space capsule (outer space), extreme long establishing shot
You
see the vehicle traveling in orbit around the earth. The planet is
serene from this distance, glowing blue as the suns rays reflect on it’s
oceans and atmosphere. Another object comes into frame, a large
satellite, and it’s slowly rotating as it orbits. Radio chatter becomes
audible to N and the audience.
Satcom within range. Visual confirmation required before EVA.
The voice is low and robotic. N’s voice cuts in.
I see it.
(40 seconds)
Cut to:
Long
shot from the other side of the capsule, facing the satellite. The
capsule door opens and N emerges. She pushes herself out of the capsule
and begins to float toward the satellite.
(10 seconds)
Cut to:
Medium tracking shot of N gracefully floating toward the satellite.
(15 seconds)
Cut to:
A long shot of N, high above the earth’s surface as the sun peaks below the horizon.
(5 seconds)
Cut to:
Extreme
close up of N’s boots landing on the satellite. You can heard the low
hum of some sort of generated magnetic field keeping her bound to the
surface of the satellite.
(2 seconds)
Cut to:
N gains her composure and prepares to begin working on the satellite, but she is disturbed by a mysterious presence.
(8 seconds)
Cut to:
an
over-shoulder shot of N facing the camera. A figure is seen out of
focus behind her. Rack focus to see the figure clearly. It’s some sort
of alien creature standing on the other end of the satellite.
(10 seconds)
Cut to:
full
shot of the alien. It stands on the other side of the satellite,
unmoving except for the tentacles swaying around, trying to sense it’s
surroundings. The creature is mostly humanoid in shape, except for its
head which is covered with long tentacle-like feelers and has a gaping
whole in the middle of its face. Something inside the face is slightly
glowing. N is stunned with awe/fear. The alien approaches her.
(10 seconds)
Cut to:
a
3/4 shot. The alien is face to face with N and she gazes into the
gaping whole in its head. She looks inside and sees a pulsing sphere
with connecting tissue attaching it to the inside of its head. The
sphere looks like a tiny planet.
N
is completely awestruck. The alien examines her then drifts back into
space. But N has seen something incredible and without thinking attempts
to follow the alien.
(25 seconds)
Cut to:
a medium shot of N reaching outward toward the alien (the camera)
(6 seconds)
Cut to:
first person shot. Her hand is stretched toward the alien as moves further and further away from her until it vanishes.
(8 seconds)
Cut to:
long shot. N is now floating away from her capsule with no way to return.
(5 seconds)
Cut to:
medium
shot. She stares into the darkness where the alien just was, then
slowly turns to see the world beneath her, her capsule and the satellite
shrinking as she drifts further and further away. Panic sets in as she
realizes the fatal mistake she made. She will soon die.
(7 seconds)
Cut to:
close
up shot. N looks down at the blue earth and tears well up in her eyes.
She is awestruck again by the beauty of the earth. She closes her eyes
and wait for the inevitable.
(8 seconds)
Cut to:
medium
shot. Suddenly the alien reappears in front of N. She gasps as it
reaches toward her helmet and takes it off. She begins to grasp nirvana
as she becomes more at peace with her own fate. A sense of cosmic
one-ness overwhelms her senses. She can see every man, woman, and
child, the earth, the solar system, the galaxy, galaxies, every creature
on every planet and herself all connected by an infinite number of
particles comprising the universe, bouncing together, flying through the
nothingness, using everything they have to simply exist. Stars die,
the earth fades, the sun explodes, the universe keeps going. In another
galaxy another astronaut ponders her own existence as she faces her own
doom. The astronaut is not human her, but it is her. The astronaut is
the alien. N and the Alien are the same.
(30 seconds)
Transformation sequence (a series of many quick cuts and shots):
N’s eyes roll back as she reaches for her neck like she is choking. Her eyes and nose become sealed shut (like neo’s mouth in The Matrix
during the interrogation scene with Agent Smith). Bubbles underneath
her skin begin to form and grow into long, tentacle-like nerve endings.
Her mouth is now closed shut like her eyes, where her nose was is now a
flat surface and her hair is gone. A hole opens up in the middle of
what was once her face and continues to grow. Inside the hole is a
pulsing, beating sphere, beating like a heart but swirling like an
entire world.
(15 seconds)
Cut to:
N
looks down upon the earth, transcended into a consciousness that feels
the pain of every living creature on the planet, but lacks to power to
stop it all.
